The best weight-loss routine is almost always a well-rounded food plan that makes you happy with what you're eating, because if you're happy, you're more likely you are to stick with the plan.

There are plenty of great tasty foods you don't have to give up.

Don't give up your nut butters. Maybe you can move beyond the cheapest of the peanut butters to a wholesome cashew or almond butter. And the nuts behind the butters are good too. Almonds and cashews have great amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids and you can combine them for a terrific, crunchy snack (instead of the processed snacks we often first reach for).

Don't forget about that guy you see on TV commercials who lost a bunch of weight by eating submarine sandwiches. You can make a big, tall hearty sandwich with some good deli meats, roast turkey, spinach and leafy vegetables, sprouts, tomato and more. Pack these goodies into some high-fiber whole-grain bread, and you're good to go. There are no rules to making a sandwich. Just try to go easy on sauces and oils.

You can make a fast omelet with egg whites, lowfat cheese and a little broccoli. Add some lowfat strawberry yogurt and you've got a fast meal.

Keep fresh fruit such as bananas, apples and grapefruit on hand. Buy a whole pineapple and cut it up — it'll last for days in the refrigerator.

And steam fresh vegetables. They taste so much better than canned or frozen. Steam some broccoli (don't overcook it), sprinkle a little butter and pepper over the top and it's wonderful.

Drink a lot of green tea if you can. I know it can be a bit of an acquired taste for some people. Personally, I don't like green tea very much; I like coffee. So I tell myself that I can't have my first cup of coffee in the morning until after I drink a cup of tea first. That little rule works for me.

Green tea may have plenty of different health benefits. It may raise the rate of metabolism in your body and help your body burn fat sooner. Plus it may help lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol and lower overall stress levels too.

Finding the best weight loss diet is all about being imaginative and being able to eat a lot of great foods — as long as they're the right foods.
